START Literacy Initiative

The *START tutoring program of the Goodman Community Center (GCC) is a semester-long intergenerational, high-impact tutoring model grounded in the Science of Reading that supports students’ reading skills. *START Tutoring operates as an afterschool literacy club where students practice word attack strategies and build reading confidence in a fun, incentive-based setting.

During tutoring sessions, tutor teams engage students in activities, games, and practice reading decodable books to strengthen their skills.
