During our annual Backpack Drive, we provide backpacks and supplies for 750 local youth. Supplies are donated leading up to shopping days. GCC program participants get to sign up first and then community members are invited to participate.
Volunteers are welcomed to help with early organizing of the supplies and backpacks, the collection of donations and with our shopping days for participants and community members.
When signing up for a shift, please keep this schedule of events in mind-
Tuesday, July 29th- Volunteers will help us start our inventory process. This involves unboxing donations, breaking down boxes, counting and transporting donations from childcare office to our storage pod. May also involve removing stickers from used/donated binders.
Monday, August 18th- Volunteers will sort and count donations (may be working both inside and outside, as our storage pod is outside)
Weds, August 20th- Volunteers accept, sort and take inventory of donations (may include breaking down boxes)
Thursday, August 21st- Volunteers Accept, sort and take inventory of donations (may include breaking down of boxes)
Friday, August 22nd- Volunteers help as families shop (guide through shopping process, check in table, etc)
Saturday, August 23rd- Volunteers Accept, sort and take inventory of donations (may include breaking down of boxes)
Sunday, August 24th- Volunteers help as families shop (guide through shopping process, check in table, etc)
Tuesday, August 26th- Volunteers either help prep for final shopping day (in the morning) or work final shopping hours (in the evening)
Weds, August 27th- Volunteers will help deep clean the space used for school supply shopping, in order to help prepare the classroom in use for the upcoming school year.
Please choose the shift that feels best for you and note that if you are working during a donation and sorting day, shift may end early, depending on amount of things to sort.
