Description

Share your love of literacy and learning!

Join our pilot S.T.A.R.T.* Initiative

Learn how to teach elementary-age youth to read as a trained one-on-one tutor. We are piloting a model that partners adult and teen tutors with individual elementary youth. These triads will work for 8-weeks together to improve the young person's reading skills.

All tutors will attend 24-hours of training in the evidence-based Science of Reading curriculum and tutors will be given toolboxes of activities and resources to use in tutoring sessions.

Ideal volunteers are enthusiastic about reading and literacy. Prior experience with teaching literacy or reading is preferred. Willingness to support both high school students and elementary youth is a must!  We hope volunteers can attend all three days, for all 12 weeks (fewer days/ hours may be accommodated) of a given semester.
